Rilke in the Park: Poetry among the treetops – the premiere in Aalen
Take a deep breath, then dive in: The Theater of the City of Aalen invites you to a picturesque stroll through the park of Schloss Fachsenfeld – featuring texts by Rainer Maria Rilke, delicately woven with live music by Bolz&Knecht. Between clearings and avenues, a stage experience emerges that reimagines the theatrical atmosphere in the open air.
A walk as a staging
Instead of a classic proscenium stage, the performance guides the audience from station to station. Directed by Tina Brüggemann; she compiles Rilke's letters, poems, and prose miniatures into a dynamic dramaturgy, where path, wind, and expanse narrate together. The acting talents of Arwid Klaws, Valeria Prautsch, and Hugo Ziegler capture Rilke's quiet radicalism – tentative, precise in language, clear in attitude.
Sound colors in the green
The music by Bolz&Knecht unfolds in a chamber-music style in the park: saxophone, guitar, and delicate accents form sound bridges between scenes. The acoustics of the park carry – bird calls, distant footsteps, a breath. Thus, a natural stage composition is created that makes Rilke's language music audible.
Stage design in dialogue with nature
Set designer Birgit Barth works with reduced props that fit into the topography: a bench under trees, an easel, a suitcase with papers. The light follows the evening, creating silhouettes, drawing faces – nature as a living stage set.
Dramaturgical handwriting with depth sharpness
The adaptation connects biographical trails – Worpswede, Villa Borghese, Moscow, Zurich – with Rilke's artistic self-questioning. The dramaturgy (Ella Elia Anschein, Tonio Kleinknecht) sharpens the text lines into a parcours about art, solitude, and presence. Audience reaction, based on experience: concentrated silence, then long breaths, applause.
Premiere evening in the castle park
The premiere concludes with an on-site premiere celebration. Recommendation: weatherproof clothing and sturdy footwear – the gravel paths are part of the experience. In case of uncertain weather conditions, the organizers will decide up to two hours before the start.
Conclusion: Expect a poetic open-air theater that makes Rilke's language shine – a sensual, intelligent evening in the dialogue of literature, music, and landscape. Experience live before the traces in the grass fade away.
