Ulrich Brauchle: Visual – Between Line, Landscape and Abstraction
With the exhibition Visual, the District Office Ostalbkreis in Aalen presents new painting and drawing by the Ellwangen artist Ulrich Brauchle. The showcase leads into a concentrated visual world, where figuration and abstraction, landscape and open form meet in a tense confrontation.
When the Line Becomes Image Space
Ulrich Brauchle's artistic practice is rooted in drawing. Pencil, charcoal, oil paint and oil pastels develop a visual language that grows out of the line and increasingly opens up into surface, color, and structure. Figurative motifs and landscapes do not appear as finished images, but as starting points for a multi-layered examination of the works.
In the drawings, the line gains an immediate, probing quality. It describes, hints, and simultaneously leaves gaps. The painting expands this process: Color fields, visible brush strokes, and different layering create open image spaces where perception and memory meet.
Between Figuration and Abstraction
The exhibition moves along the thin edge between familiar reality and autonomous form. Landscape references, figures, and architectural hints remain recognizable, while contours dissolve and the image carrier emerges as an independent spatial presence. This creates an art experience that does not rely on quick clarity but on the duration of seeing.
Brauchle's works stand in a developed art historical tradition of landscape representation, free drawing, and abstract painting. Nature appears not as a mere motif but as a resonance space for color, rhythm, and movement. The exhibition atmosphere invites an aesthetic experience in which quiet tension and sensual perception come together.
Artistic Biography and Art Historical Context
Ulrich Brauchle, born in 1971 in Ellwangen, studied from 1991 to 1996 at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart. He then dedicated himself at the University of Tübingen to history, art history, and theology. His work includes painting, drawing, etching, watercolor, and other graphic techniques.
For his printmaking work, Brauchle received, among others, the Art Prize of the Art Association Heidenheim and the Felix Hollenberg Prize for Printmaking. As an art educator, lecturer, and curator, he combines artistic practice with cultural education and imparts an eye for material, composition, and image perception.
A Quiet Art Experience with Lasting Impact
Visual is aimed at all who wish to experience painting and drawing beyond fleeting effects. The exhibition opens spaces for precise observation: for the relationship between line and surface, for the impact of color, and for the question of how an independent image reality emerges from nature observation.
Visitors can expect a concentrated examination of works with new pencil drawings, oil paintings, and oil pastel works. Those who want to experience contemporary art from the region directly and discover the connection between drawing, painting, landscape, and abstraction should visit this exhibition at the District Office Ostalbkreis live.
