Ulrich Brauchle – Visual: Between Line, Landscape, and Abstraction

With the exhibition Visual, the Ostalbkreis District Office in Aalen presents new works by the Ellwangen artist Ulrich Brauchle. The exhibition connects painting and drawing and invites concentrated contemplation of the works. Pencil drawings, oil paintings, and oil pastel paintings tread the fine line between representation and abstraction.

A Visual Language of Line and Surface

Ulrich Brauchle's artistic work is rooted in drawing. Lines, surfaces, and color applications shape the image space without completely defining it. Figurative echoes encounter landscape motifs, while the picture carrier itself remains visible as an active part of the composition. From the apparent simplicity emerges a multifaceted visual language.

Painting between Nature Experience and Abstraction

Brauchle's paintings originate from an engagement with nature and landscape, as well as with musical rhythms. In the exhibition, oil paintings and oil pastel paintings enter into a dialogue with pencil drawings. Color fields, open contours, and rhythmically placed lines create a dynamic yet tranquil spatial effect. The works do not demand quick recognition but rather slow observation.

Aesthetic Experience and Concentrated Viewing

The title Visual refers to a central quality of this art: The visible remains the starting point, yet its meaning arises only in the process of contemplation. The atmosphere of the exhibition thrives on the tension between figurative suggestion and free form. Lines begin to speak, surfaces gain weight, and familiar landscape memories transform into open image spaces.

Art Historical Context

Ulrich Brauchle is a painter, draughtsman, printmaker, and art mediator. He studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart and at the University of Tübingen. He received the Felix Hollenberg Prize for his etching work. His artistic practice combines contemporary abstraction with the tradition of landscape representation and autonomous drawing.

Opening and Artist Tours

The exhibition was opened on October 8, 2026, at the Ostalbkreis District Office. At the opening, District Administrator Dr. Joachim Bläse and Ulrich Brauchle spoke; a musical accompaniment enhanced the art experience. Artist tours with Ulrich Brauchle will take place on November 19 and December 10, 2026, each at 5:30 PM.

Opening Hours

The exhibition can be viewed until December 31, 2026. It is open Monday to Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Thursday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:15 PM.

The exhibition offers a quiet, intense art experience for all those who want to discover painting, drawing, and contemporary landscape art with open eyes.
