Artful in Advent: The Artothek makes art a personal experience
From December 1, 2026 to January 10, 2027, the City Hall Gallery in Aalen will transform into a walkable Advent calendar. The exhibition combines aesthetic experience, cultural education, and the unique idea of the Artothek: artworks from the collection of the city of Aalen can be borrowed for a year and experienced in one's own home.
24 days, 24 artistic discoveries
Every day, another artwork will be revealed in the gallery. A total of 24 works will be presented: twelve pieces from artists in the region, and twelve more from the municipal art collection. The curatorial dramaturgy turns the exhibition into a daily artwork contemplation and invites visitors to discover painting, photography, and sculpture with fresh eyes.
Aesthetic experience between gallery and home
The Artothek expands the classic exhibition visit by adding a personal dimension. Selected artworks can be reserved and picked up starting January 11, 2027. Thus, art migrates from the public space into private living and life worlds. Colors, shapes, materials, and pictorial spaces unfold their effect not only in the gallery but also in everyday life.
Cultural education with sustainable impact
The exhibition demonstrates how accessible cultural participation can succeed. Visitors encounter contemporary art, regional art production, and the holdings of a municipal collection. The Artothek creates immediate access to art history and promotes an intensive, long-term engagement with the borrowed work.
City Hall Gallery Aalen as a meeting place
The City Hall Gallery regularly presents regional and internationally renowned artists. In addition to changing exhibitions from the fields of painting, sculpture, and photography, it provides a stage for the Artothek, where art can be viewed, selected, and discovered for the personal environment. The exhibition atmosphere combines public presentation with personal closeness.
Admission to the exhibition is free. The loan of an artwork for one year costs 35.70 Euros according to the information about the Artothek; designated works can also be purchased.
Conclusion: Discover art and take it home
The Artothek in the City Hall Gallery Aalen offers a special art experience in Advent: daily surprises, regional art, works from the municipal collection, and the opportunity to permanently integrate art into one's daily life. Anyone wishing to experience aesthetic engagement not only in the museum but also at home should definitely visit this exhibition live.
