Bach's Goldberg Variations: Dance, Light, and Piano Art at KulturBahnhof Aalen
Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations will be performed on October 10, 2026, at KulturBahnhof Aalen in a unique combination of piano music, ballet, and light. The ballet students of Elena Wirth will present a choreography to Bach's famous variation cycle, while Hans-Roman Kitterer will provide musical accompaniment at the piano.
Baroque Sound World Meets Modern Stage Performance
The Goldberg Variations are among the most demanding and significant works in the piano literature. Their intricate orchestration for a keyboard instrument, the precise synchronization of the variations, and the changing characters between calm, movement, and virtuosic condensation provide an extraordinary basis for dance interpretation.
Music, Movement, and Light in a Concentrated Atmosphere
In the orchestra hall of the music school at KulturBahnhof, a sensual concert experience emerges: the piano playing carries the baroque structure, the stage performance translates musical motifs into movement, and an atmospheric lighting design expands the sound into a visual dimension. The lighting and sound technology is managed by the Licht-und-Ton-AG of Hellenstein Gymnasium Heidenheim under the direction of Ralf Müller.
A Work with Musical Depth
Bach's Goldberg Variations combine a clear thematic framework with great stylistic diversity. Canonical structures, dance rhythms, and virtuosic passages alternate, making each variation a unique sonic character portrait. In Aalen, this historical music meets a young ballet generation and a carefully designed lighting direction.
Free Admission, Limited Seating
Admission begins at 3:30 PM, the performance starts at 4:00 PM, and is expected to end at 5:30 PM. Admission is free, donations are welcome. As seating is limited, early arrival is recommended.
